Red Group
This is our entry level group. An athlete needs to be able
to swim 50 yards of freestyle and backstroke to enter
this group.
Purple
Group
From the Red group, athletes move into this group. Athletes in
this group focus mainly on learning four legal competitive strokes,
having fun, and perfecting start and turn technique. Learning to
use the clock is another skill taught and purple group swimmers
will have their first taste of repitition sets - such a set might
be 6 x 100 freestyle on 2:00 or 8 x 50 backstroke on 1:15.
Generally, all races for swimmers in this group are 100 yards or
less. Purple group swimmers, if considered ready, will be
encouraged to enter USS meets in addition to diual meets.
Making the New England Regional and Age Group Championships is the
main competitive goal for the season.
Green
Group
From the Purple group, athletes move into this group. Athletes
in this group are usually at least 10 years old and have completed
the Purple Group move-up skills list. Green group workouts
are a mixture of technique and conditioning. Endurance sets
in this group might be 20 x 100 on 1:45.
Silver
Group
Training takes precedence over technique work for the first
time in the athlete’s development. Athletes in this group
train for the 200 Individual Medley and 500 Freestyles. Swimmers
should be able to hold 20 x 100 on a 1:25 interval. Swimmers
need to exhibit a maturity level that allows them to work with
their lane mates.
Blue Group
Athletes entering the Blue group must display a strong desire
to perform at the highest level they are capable of. Training is
geared towards individual talents, although a strong aerobic
endurance factor is present. Minimum training sets
include:
30x100 @ 1:15
4x200IM @3:00
